Which man invented the Caesar salad?
- Caesar Cardini:When you order a Caesar salad, you might think you’re ordering a dish named after a Roman leader. However, this popular salad has nothing to do with Rome. Instead, it was American restaurateur Caesar Cardini that invented the Caesar salad in 1924 in Tijuana, Mexico. The original recipe included “romaine, garlic, croutons, and Parmesan cheese, boiled eggs, olive oil and Worcestershire sauce.” Supposedly Cardini’s brother, Alex, came to Tijuana in 1926 and added anchovies to the salad. People gradually began referring to it as “Caesar’s salad”, as it came from Caesar’s restaurant.
