What is the name of the needle that rides the groove of a vinyl record?
- Stylus:Before there were MP3s, CD players, and cassette tapes — there was the record player. An essential component of the record player is the stylus. The stylus is the needle that rests against the vinyl record as it spins. The stylus is held by the tonearm, which allows the stylus to ride the grooves of the record. The vibrations from the stylus riding the grooves travel through wires inside the tonearm and arrive at the cartridge. The cartridge transforms these vibrations into electrical signals which are amplified and broadcasted through the speakers.
