Which animal has only one toe on each foot?
- Horse:Animals classified in the genus Equus include horses, donkeys, rhinos, and zebras. These animals have a special claim to fame: they're the only living group of animals to have just one toe. Their ancient ancestors had four toes on their front feet and three toes on their back feet. Over time, and as they grew larger, their feet evolved to accommodate their changed bodies. The horse's multi-toed foot adjusted to eliminate the side toes and increasing the size and load capacity of the large middle toe. Eventually, the horse species were standing and moving on one toe, or hoof as it's commonly called today. Source: SmithsonianMag.com
