Due to a study linking a food dye to cancer, M&Ms packages did not include which color from 1976 to 1987?
- Red:When the first M&M’s rolled off Mars’ production line in 1941, they originally came in five colors: brown, yellow, green, violet, and red. Then, in 1976, the red M&M disappeared. For a decade, the color was nowhere to been seen in the candy’s packets. Apparently, a Soviet Union study erroneously declared that Red Dye No. 2 could pose a health risk to those who consumed it. Although no solid evidence existed, the FDA banned the dye out of an abundance of caution. As a result, red M&Ms were removed from the market until 1987.
